Foundation for Development and Relief Africa (FIDRA) works with the local health centers in improving maternal and child health in the post war ravaged areas of Northern Uganda. The major challenges among Health Centers we work are poor maternity services yet deliveries are attended by qualified midwives and nurses. Most Hospitals lack maternity beds and mattresses to handle deliveries. In most cases, women on antenatal and labour services are conducted on verandas, on the floor and under trees where patients with different infections are gathered contributing 85% to maternal and child related infections and death. On rainy seasons, women are sent back home unattended encouraging laxity in attending required antenatal services, incomplete children immunization and unmet reproductive health needs. Maternity furniture needs in Northern Uganda are insufficiently addressed; resourced and demographic importance is insufficiently acknowledged by the government. The project is imperative for improving quality of maternal delivery and new-born care services through the supply of beds and mattresses. Installing an immunization tent, Clean water catchment tank and equipping midwives/nurses with requisite skills and knowledge for maintaining the facilities. The project target 4,860 pregnant, expectant mothers and infants attending antenatal care services, immunization and other reproductive health services
